MY TUTORIALS

TRANSPARENT LETTERS

This tutorial is a personal creation. Any resemblance with another one would be only pure coincidence. It is strictly forbidden to modify my images, to change their name or take off the watermarks in order to present them on your sites or blog, to share them in groups, to make a bank of images, or to use them on lucrative purposes. You can write to me here if you need.

I made this tutorial for PSPX but you can use any version of PSP; the results might be slightly different.

PLUGINS
Alien Skin Eye Candy which every body has already
and if not, go here under Eye Candy
Thank you Créaline!

MATERIALS
You will need an image
A font that can be large in width
(I have chosen Times New Roman for this tutorial
because everybody has it in its computer)

Let's start!!

1
Open your image
Window - Duplicate
Close the original - always work on the duplicates so that you
can have an intact original in case you encounter a problem with your PSP

2
Layers - Promote Background raster layer

3
Layers - New raster layer
Now, click on your Text tool
In your Materials, you can make your Foreground and Background with
the same color or a gradient in one of them or no color in your Foreground
but select light colors
Select your font
I selected these for the purpose of the tutorial but feel free to change the size and the sroke width
Size 72, Stroke width at 3.0 and Create as 'Selection'

4
Write your text which is transparent.
Apply the changes; now your letters are transparent but can't be moved where you want them but wait, we will change this

5
Selection - Promote as a layer
Your letters are still selected but on a layer of its own
Flood fill the selection with a light color
Zoom in if you need to see the inside of your letters
Reduce the Opacity of this layer to 40 (may vary according to your color)

Effects - 3D effects - Drop Shadow 1/1/50/2 with color black

6
You can repeat the drop shadow effect twice or even more but
remember that those letters are supposed to be transparent
Do not deselect your letters yet because you can move them in some other place, if you want to

7
With your Move tool, click in one of your letters and place the whole selection where you want to; the original place are still selected
Selections - Select none
Adjust the opacity to your taste by playing with the slider

8
If you want to write another text line in your image, repeat starting from step 3 and either write with the same font or select another font, like I did in my final image
Don't forget to modify the size and other settings if necessary

9
When it is to your liking,
Layers - Merge - Merge all (Flatten)

10
Sign your image or File - Save as an optimized jpeg
You are done!

I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial.
